If you had already thought there wasn’t any more room inside your cramped make-up bag then you’re going to need to buy a bigger one. As spring continues and summer approaches, it’s time to get some colour back in your cheeks. Perfect for the indecisive or the blush averse, these bumper blusher palettes are having a moment and breaking free of the traditional single pan – or even single cream stick, liquid tint – offering. In the not so distant past, if you wanted to buy a blusher you had to “find your correct shade” – a bemusing if not terrifying experience for most: coral, pink or red-toned?  – and then hope you’d like it for the next 12 months until it ran out or you gave up even applying. Multiply this anxiety with the now almost ubiquitous use of highlighters and contouring products, and you’ve some very confused colour combinations not to mentioned caked-on complexions.

Which is why these palettes come in so handy, because like an actual artist’s palette they allow for experimentation, blending and colour play. Layer up a dusky pink powder swooshed across the cheeks and nose with some daubed highlighter. Blend a bronzed blush around the temples for that Brazilian glow. Or pop a bright red powder onto the apples of the cheeks to create a look of youthful exuberance.

Nars Narsissist Unfiltered I Cheek Palette, £45

Don’t be alarmed by the pop of tomato-red matte colour in this new, limited-edition Nars palette, that’ll be the brand’s best-selling cheek powder shade “Exhibit A” which blends to the perfect glow of all skin tones. Featuring a further five limited-edition colours, the palette balances three matte and three shimmering shades that like the perfect capsule wardrobe perfectly complement one another. We particularly love layering the deep matte russet with “Takeover”, the bronze copper rose for a deep, grown-up bronzer and blusher combination.

Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate Cheeks in “Sublimate”, £58 from Selfridges

We’d expect nothing less of a cheek palette from the master of colour Tom Ford. These new blendable, creamy duo blusher and highlighters come in two colour-ways: the rich rose “Sublimate” and the warmer, coral “Scintillate”. We love how the colour can be built up for a subtle glow to a sultry, sexy flush, while the illuminator is a glow-giving revelation with absolutely no glitter in sight. We promise.

Hourglass Illume Sheer Colour Trio “Sunset”, £54 from Space NK

If you can get your hands on this swoon-worthy Hourglass palette – it sells out faster than you can turn an hourglass, or should we say second-glass? – then you’d be fool not to swipe one up. In a nutshell: it’s warming in a 1990s supermodel way. The cream bronzer is non-glittery, universally flattering, the blush a shade of good-enough-to-eat apricot and the highlighter, in true Hourglass glory, is utter moonlit perfection.
