Is that a hydrating sorbet sundae I see before me? Or is the delectably fresh new Dior skincare range, Hydra Life?

In all its rainbow glory, Dior’s newest skin launch comprises nine naturally-led products all aimed at rehydrating dry, imbalanced skin. Taking the mantra “do one thing and do it well” and running with it, Dior are focusing on gentle, plant-based, 90% natural solutions for younger skins – no line repair promises or magical solutions, just balance, hydration and good sense. The products are the result of a collaboration with the Human Microbiome Project – an enormous project that has featured 200 researchers, 250 patents, and has been published in over 350 scientific journals – who have discovered that maintaining the skin’s natural “flora” is the secret to its health. Like the "healthy gut bacteria" that doctors have been going on about for yonks, the principle is the same for the skin. Good skin doesn’t come from stripping or peeling off its natural composition, instead the range is designed to help the skin to regulate its own hydration and defend against redness and imperfections.

The collection includes a water essence, three masks, four cleansers and a moisturising sorbet crème – which despite its name, we don’t recommend eating. Each is encased in creamy pastel packaging that has been sustainably designed. With lighter glass and natural inks, Dior have abolished the extra information leaflets, corrugated cardboard padding or cellophane wrap that always go straight into the bin. And containing ingredients like mallow, echinacea, sweet almond and jojoba oil, these products minimise the use of harmful silicates and petrochemicals. The results? Guilt-free, good, good skin.

Here’s our pick of the hydrating best:

Oil to Milk Make-up Removing Cleanser, 200ml, £27 from John Lewis

Oh how we love an oil cleanser, providing a perfect opportunity to work some facial massage into a cleansing routine as the oil melts into damp skin and transforms into a milk emulsion. Like all oils it’s particularly effective at gripping onto heavy make-up without leaving you all panda eyed. We love the delicate almond scent.

Glow Better Fresh Jelly Mask, 50ml, £44 from John Lewis

This is a three-minute mask for those who want the benefits of a mask but who either don’t have the patience or the time for a 30 minute at-home facial. The fruit acids in this deliciously satisfying jelly slew off the top layer of dead skin for a first round of glow giving, while the apricot kernels provide a gentle physical exfoliation when you rinse away the jelly.

Fresh Hydration Sorbet Crème, 50ml, £45.50 from John Lewis

This very lightweight moisturiser is silken without silicates, it smells fresh – contains mallow – and doesn’t overload the skin or leave a greasy residue that interferes with make-up. Use it morning or night, or both, definitely both.

Time to Glow Ultra Fine Exfoliating Powder, 40g, £32 from John Lewis

Probably the most innovative and forward-looking product in the Hydra Life range, this exfoliating powder balloons into a foam once it touches water to deeply cleanse and exfoliate the skin. By smoothing the skin’s texture with lotus seeds it evens texture, giving a radiance that lasts longer than any serum we know of.
