As humidity increases we need our mascara to work extra hard, not smudge in the heat or flake away with the drying effects of air conditioning. We’ve found three new mascaras which are putting in some serious overtime to make lashes look long with lasting effects.

YSL Volume Effet Faux Cils The Shock Mascara, £23

When YSL Beauty launch a new mascara, lashes practically flutter with excitement. Arguably the best products in their range, YSL mascaras have always provided big impact but where they provided volume they often had a tendency to smudge. Alas the new The Shock mascara provides both longevity and boldness. The wand is charged with creamy formula each time that it is loaded into the barrel and the curved shape of the wand means that even the stumpy lashes are elongated and thickened. Shocking would be an understatement.

Givenchy Noir Interdit Mascara, £25.50 from June

Sometimes a beauty innovation comes along and makes us think: “What were we doing until now?”. Givenchy’s Noir Interdit Mascara is one of those products. With a bendable brush tip, the lengthening and intense black formula can coat every single lash, and we mean every single one. The mascara itself contains black rose oil to nourish, as well as stiff waxes that can hold a curled lash in place for hours.

Lancôme Monsieur Big Mascara, £21

While Lancôme’s Hypnose has long been a trusted favourite mascara, with a satisfyingly chubby brush, the brand’s latest foray into mascara gives XXL effects. The ultra-black, malleable wax is light reflecting to make eyelashes look babydoll-like – like an 1960s Richard Avedon photoshoot with Twiggy as the model. Most impressively it lasts longer than many mascaras we’ve tried, two coats and you get a good full day to night coverage without any flaking. Perfect for that French girl I-wear-nothing-but-mascara look.
