Few make-up looks are more replicated than French-girl barely-there glow, or the Parisian red lip, or the off-duty eyeliner of a female rockstar. The actor and singer Charlotte Gainsbourg is the embodiment of insouciant beauty; the child of Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin, the muse of Lars von Trier, style and substance has always been her prerogative. Her latest foray has led her into the world of beauty and the genius of François Nars.

For her NARS collaboration Gainsbourg has channelled her less-is-more approach to develop a thoroughly wearable wardrobe of makeup classics. The Hydrating Glow Tint adds an ideal springtime glowy coverage, while the iconic NARS multiple sticks have a new sheer formula for Gainsbourg’s take on a natural cheek flush.

The three coconut-oil infused lip tints, in shades of “Double Decker” red, “Éphélide” pink and “Promise” plum add just the right wash of colour to the lips and recall Gainsbourg cross-Channel life in both Paris and London.

The eye products are a decidedly darker affair, the limited edition velvet formulas are richly pigmented and finely milled. “Old Church Street” features a warm champagne shade and a dark teal, while “Rue Allent” has a shimmering, crisp white colour set alongside an iridescent racing green. As you’d expect, there are some thoroughly smudgable, moody kohliners in navy, grey and green that glide and smear to just the right degree, with a great durability so that they don’t slide down your face come 4pm. The pièce de résistance? The “Au Poil” leather brush roll, containing five limited edition brushes, each with a different, luxurious handle.

Nars X Charlotte Gainsbourg, limited edition, is available to buy exclusively at Selfridges and Narscosmetics.co.uk.
