Because they’ve been playing with the unconventional laboratory of smells mixed up by the creative team of Comme des Garçons. Since the brand’s first perfume launch in 1994 with an eponymous scent created by Mark Buxton, CDG and its founder Rei Kawakubo have launched more than 75 different perfumes. And with many of them gaining a cult status within the scent communities, it’s not a surprise that ten of the fan favourites are coming back as part of the Comme des Garçons Olfactory Library. From the earliest throwback which dates back to the first Eau de Cologne launched in 1996 through to Series 6: Synthetic smells with perfumes like Soda and Tar, all the way to the 2005 edition of the tooth-achingly sweet scents.

Our three favourites? The 2001 Series 1: Leaves scent of Calamus, Series 3: Synthetic smell of Garage and the tooth-aching Series 6: Sweet perfume blatantly named Sticky Cake. And who is wearing them? Well, it’s arguably televison’s most iconic trio – the original Charlie’s Angels of 1976 heading to Havana, Cuba for an eclectic holiday each perfectly embodying their chosen scent..

Earthy Angel

CDG Series 1: Leaves – Calamus was created by perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour

The sexy nymph Kelly Garrett (played by Jaclyn Smith) wears an earthy scent of Calamus while strolling through the National Botanic Garden in Havana, with her Lisa Marie Fernandez linen dress, Valentino embossed leather boots and a pair of Christopher Kane round shades. Her perfectly tousled voluminous hair is only letting a bit of sparkle from her Irene Neuwirth diamond earring peek through while she’s sitting in the park reading I Love Dick by Chris Kraus, with the tones of bamboo, red berries and pink pepper of her perfume fighting with the floral scents of the garden.

Dark Angel

CDG Series 6: Synthetic – Garage was created by perfumer Marie-Aude Couture

She’s a fierce rebel and her unique scent mixture of aldehydes and kerosene with floral and cedar notes is here to prove it. Sabrina Duncan (played by Sabrina Jackson) combines the nostalgic smells of a car workshop with a rebellious outfit of her own. While on her way to a night out at the Fabrica de Arte Cubano, she is the girl that mixes high and low – layering a maxi The Row slip dress with a pair of Re-Done Original cut-off jeans and the seminal Golden Goose worn-out looking trainers. Why a rebel, you might ask? With her Stella McCartney Popper bag in one hand, she’s sipping on an Old Fashioned – even in the rum capital of the world.

Sweet Angel

CDG Series 7: Sweet – Sticky Cake was created by perfumer Nathalie Feisthauer

The eclectic darling of the group is the sweetest of them all. Jill Munroe (played by Farrah Fawcett) has her blonde, perfectly blown-out locks bouncing with a cloud of pistachio, honey and almond scents. Covered in her Sticky Cake perfume, she’s exploring Fusterlandia, the Cuban capital’s fantasy-land neighbourhood reimagined by artist José Fuster. And her fashion follows. A multicoloured pleated lamé skirt by Gucci, asymmetric tulle top by Simone Rocha, Maryam Nassir Zadeh’s iridescent mules and a MiuMiu leather headband, and the When Harry Met Sally flick on her Netflix to go. The only thing she’s missing is a Prince Charming riding a rainbow-coloured unicorn.

The Comme des Garçons Olfactory Library limited edition perfumes are available from shop.doverstreetmarket.com and Dover Street Market London, 18-22 Haymarket, London SW1Y 4DG at £70.
