A ‘delicate pleasure’, the dainty butterfly-shaped beauty that is the Sweet Pea (or Lathyrus Odoratus) is a true delight for the senses. Fruity in its smell, soft to the touch and enchanting with its rich and varied palette, it’s an emblem of springtime serenity and bliss.

Bottling this feeling, Lyn Harris of Perfumer H (known also for her collaborations with designers including Anya Hindmarch) created her bespoke concoction Sweet Pea, a fragrance that transports you to the bucolic depths of the British countryside and the first blooms of the season.

Although the flower (rather mischievous in nature for its ability to climb and entwine some eight feet) can be traced back to the Sicilian coast in 1699, it’s now grown to be synonymous with Edwardian England. In 1884, Romantic poet John Keats revelled in their splendour, going on to coin the moniker ‘Sweet Pea’ as he wrote:

“Here are sweet peas, on tip-toe for a flight:
With wings of gentle flush o’er delicate white,
And taper fingers catching at all things,
To bind them all about with tiny rings.”

Encapsulating the very essence of the scent with feminine flourishes by way of Simone Rocha, Alexa Chung and Valentino, our click-to-buy edits (tap ‘+’ to shop) advocate florals for spring in a big way.
