To own a Hermès Birkin is considered touching gold – actually, in the current climate, it’s better still, proven to be a more worthy investment than gold itself. Each bag taking no less than 12 hours to make, at the hands of master craftspeople who undergo years of training before working on a Birkin in Hermès leather workshop, the most widely recognised bag has been an object of desire for the past 39 years.

But while few of us will ever be able to get our mitts on a coveted Birkin bag, the Hermès Beauty offering is perhaps a more realistic investment. And given the brand’s recent addition of mascara, eyeshadow and makeup brushes to its growing lineup of cosmetics, there’s now something for every palate.

Le Regard Hermès, features a selection of six harmonious eyeshadow palettes (which are conveniently refillable) in an array of distinctive hues, from Ombres Pétales, a quartet of blush tones, to Ombres Végétales, for green-fingered wearers; the Trait d’Hermès Mascara which also comes in six shades, including emerald green, bright violet, deep blue and burgundy, as well as four graphic makeup brushes, all designed by Hermès Beauty creative director, Gregoris Pyrpylis, who was appointed in 2022.

The fifth chapter in the luxury house’s beauty line, which began with the Rouge Hermès lipsticks in 2020 and gradually expanded to include nail polishes, foundations and highlighters, blushes and, at last, products for les yeux, Le Regard Hermès is the most experimental yet.

But the artistry extends beyond the vibrant selection of shades, with packaging designed by acclaimed designer Pierre Hardy, who has created shoes and jewellery for Hermès for more than 30 years, as well as running his own successful accessories brand. Playing with geometric shapes that seek to echo the Bauhaus movement, the packaging boasts pops of block colour, offset but the house’s 100-year-old ex libris emblem in an unexpected interplay between old and new.

With prices starting at £56 maybe now we can all own a little bit of Hermès…
