This week we’re starting a new #WomanCrushWednesday thread! First up to nominate is Because Magazine’s intern, Lia Mappoura.

WHO// Florence Given

CAREER// Artist, Writer, Influencer

WHY// It’s 2019 and inappropriate narratives that perpetuate eating disorders and submissive female culture are still being passed off as ‘dark comedy’? Not on Florence Given’s watch. The inspirational activist and face of Tinder’s ‘Single doesn’t stay inside the lines’ campaign is a force to be reckoned with; she says it how it is and encourages women to demand more for themselves.

"On-the-go Britney energy" @florencegiven

Her T-shirt designs, some of which include slogans like Stop raising him, he’s not your son’, ‘It’s a wonderful day to dump him’, and ‘Women don’t owe you pretty’ are sentiments that I’m on board with, and ones that we all need to hear. Empowerment is at the core of all she creates and campaigns for.

"One of the last things my ex said to me when I dumped him was “go write a fucking book about it". And bitch I did..." @florencegiven

Florence is my age, and for her to be speaking out against serious societal issues (that can sometimes be overlooked) in a beautiful way with creative designs and moving campaigns, is a huge inspiration. I know that she will be a forever woman crush of mine – not just on Wednesdays...

Ladies, take word of advice from Florence, and let’s not forget that you are the love of your own life!

Follow Florence at @florencegiven – and tune in next week to see where the thread takes us next...
