Can you believe it’s already September? Summer may have felt like it has catapulted by, but it’s not over yet. With a plethora of outdoor events and festivals that are flourishing throughout the month, there’s no reason as to why you shouldn’t be out enjoying the last remaining beams of sun.
Look no further, as we’ve collated a list of the best events that September has to offer, from a floating cinema, to visiting museums (yes, finally), so you can top up on your dose of culture.
The Design Museum - Electronic: From Kraftwerk to The Chemical Brothers
The Design Museum’s Electronic: From Kraftwerk to The Chemical Brothers exhibition will take you on a trip through the origins and development of electronic music in a setting that doesn’t contain sticky floors – no, we haven’t missed those. The exhibition takes an in-depth look at the visual culture surrounding dance music, while replicating in the most unique of ways the experience of being in a club. Celebrate 50 years of renowned group Kraftwerk with their 3D show, and step into the visual world of The Chemical Brothers for one of their legendary live shows. You’ll be immersed in dance floors from all over the world, from Paris, Berlin, to Detroit and Chicago, so get ready for the closest clubbing experience you’ll be getting for quite some time±

The London Design Festival
The London Design Festival has been taking place in the capital since 2003, and thankfully this year is no exception. Normally, the festival will take over different areas of the city with a mix of workshops, design showcases and shopping fairs, however, this year has had a social distanced update with some elements taking place online. LDF begins on the 12th of September, with a new installation in Stratford called ‘The Hothouse’, while ‘Architecture for Dogs’ will be positioned at Japan House, where visitors will be invited to bring their own dogs to interact with the exhibition. There’s even an inflate installation in Coal Drops Yard, 'Unity' by French designer Marlene Huissoud, which is powered by foot pumps – LDF explained that ‘if no one is pumping, the installation will deflate and lose its power and vitality’. Along with some serious calf muscle sculpting, you can take from this installation a message about working together, and how important it is to reconsider our shared environments as we emerge from the lockdown.

OpenAire Float-In Cinema
During lockdown, we’ve had socially distanced drive-ins, outdoor and cycle-in cinemas, however this month, get ready for the float-in cinema experience. The UK’s first float-in movie theatre is the collaboration of OpenAire, Merchant Square and GoBoat, who have joined forces for the new venture, which is due to arrive at Paddington's Merchants Square on September 2. A total of 16 boats will provide the socially-distanced seating for up to 128 people, and 100 deck chairs for anyone who doesn’t fancy taking to the water. You’ll be able to watch some all time classics, such as The Lion King, Titanic, Pretty Woman, to some newer releases like Knives Out, Hustler and Mamma Mia. How a-boat it?
OpenAire Float in Cinema is available to book throughout the whole of September here. Prices are £215 for a boat and £16.50 for a deckchair 
London Mural Festival
London has always been a place for artists to come together and create a space that makes it the vibrant city that it is known for. The first-ever London Mural Festival sets out to use London as a canvas, painting a minimum of 20 new large-scale mural across the city. The festival will feature 100+ international and local artists painting suburban houses to city centres and cultural hubs. Showcasing work from artists including Camille Walala, Marija Tiurina, Dale Grimshaw, Gary Stranger and a whole host of artists yet to be announced. The two-day event will bring together film screenings, gallery shows, street art tours, and of course, the largest-scale outdoor works ever created on London buildings. This is a great weekend event to get out and about walking around London, and maybe exploring areas you have never been to before.
