Coco Chanel based the original design of her iconic tweed jacket on menswear, seeking to liberate women from the restrictive silhouettes of the 1950s. This season, it takes on a new form: Karl Lagerfeld has reinvented it as a bag, the Girl Chanel. Using the same construction techniques, it references the jacket’s pockets and buttons, but the sleeves have been transformed into a multipurpose strap. “You can knot it and wear it how you want: on the hip, around the neck, on the back, anywhere,” Karl says. Keep an eye out for brand ambassador Vanessa Paradis in Chanel’s SS15 accessories campaign, wearing only pearls and a Girl Chanel.
