Supreme is publishing their first book this Thursday called Supreme/David Sims. The photographer has been following the team riders Tyshawn Jones, Sage Elsesser, Sean Pablo and Aidan Mackey to build a portfolio of photographs documenting skate culture and the youth of New York.

Sims rose to prominence in the 1990s with his fashion photography, shooting the likes of Kurt Cobain for The Face (September 1993), and Kate Moss for i-D (February 1996). He’s known for cutting through the glamour of fashion to find a more raw and realistic perspective.

In all good nineties films like Clueless, skaters are the outsiders, their baggy jeans and don’t-care attitudes removed from the cool kids. But more recently a shift has occurred, and high fashion is taking more notice of skate culture. Dover Street Market sees skate brands like Supreme and Palace hang next to the likes of Prada, showing how the line between the two is becoming increasingly blurred. Perhaps fashion designers are drawn to the nonchalant attitude of skateboarding, though you have to wonder how many people wearing designer skate shoes actually know how to skate. Thankfully, Supreme's riders have it down.

Supreme's hardcover book will be available in-store NY, LA, London and online September 17th.
