The latest Zaha Hadid creation has all the hallmarks of the late, great architect. Sensual and complex curves, seemingly without neither beginning nor end, they form a futuristic geometric structure that defies comprehension with organic lines that turn around on themselves in a never ending loop.

However, this is not the description of the latest skyscraper gracing the skyline of a city, but instead the shape of something on a much more intimate in scale. This is the new, limited edition jewellery collaboration between Danish brand Georg Jensen and Zaha Hadid, the only woman to win the prestigious Pritzker Prize as well as RIBA’s Royal Gold Medal for architecture, she sadly passed away earlier this year.

Hadid was the first architect to truly utilise computer-aided design, well before this became the norm. She was universally acknowledged as a natural architect, who paired the art of genius with an incredible, and unusual, ability both to conceptualise and sketch. She leaves a distinct legacy; whether large or small in scale, her designs are instantly recognisable. And Hadid is also well known for designing furniture too, but as it turns out her organic, sinewy and curvaceous design lexicon sits incredibly well against the human form. So this one-off collection in partnership with George Jensen hardly comes as a surprise. Launched in Copenhagen in 1904 by the eponymous silversmith, Georg Jensen is a brand that is synonymous with matching high quality with functionality. The brand also has a rich tradition of supporting and mentoring many of the stars in product design, turning them into the celebrated designers in their own right.

The product of this fine design equation, is an array of portable architectural gems that can rest on the wrist and embrace the fingers. Georg Jensen is able to remind us that timeless design can make our lives more beautiful, more graceful and not to mention giving us wearable, interesting conversation pieces. While each piece is invested with the force of Hadid’s unique personality: a powerful feminine icon, with the ability to impart intelligence and boldness.

Rowan Moore, the Observer’s architecture critic, wrote last year that, “The theory behind Hadid’s approach is that revolutionary design can revolutionise and liberate the way people live in cities; that they can encourage new, dynamic interactions between citizens, and people and culture.” What an incredible and poignant opportunity to be able to celebrate Zaha Hadid's legacy with this range of jewellery.
