They’re old friends, having collaborated together on different art and fashion projects from sculpture to scarves. But the latest venture between London-based artist Francis Upritchard and Haggerston-based design duo Peter Pilotto is their most ambitious. The eight-piece capsule street wear collection they have designed together for Matchesfashion.com goes on sale today and we want it all.

This is a peculiarly brilliant partnership. Upritchard’s surreal take on the world brings out the adventurers in Peter Pilotto and they in turn make her work well, wearable! Not many sculptors have that string to their bow but her expressionistic visual language has been transformed into appliqued patches - pineapples, kangaroos, grumpy parrots - which are used to decorate the coolest gingham shirt dress, colour block sweater, sawn-off jeans and an entry level baseball cap.

It’s the designers’ third arty collaboration for American Express and they have provided a canvas (albeit in denim, fine cotton and wool) for Upritchard to channel her brightly coloured sculptural installations of human figures. This kaleidoscope of magical creatures, crying moons and enchanted symbols makes us think of Enid Blyton’s Faraway Tree books...and that’s never a bad thing. Buy now, have fun wearing them, but look after them - you might want to frame them and add them to your art collection.

The Amex x Peter Pilotto + Francis Upritchard collection is now available on Matches.
