What better way to spend a wet afternoon than playing dress-up in prêt-a-couture? We visited the new Delpozo flagship on Sloane Street (right next to the square). It is the Madrid-based brand’s first London store, a gilded space daubed in shades of shell pink. Downstairs is a luxuriant bridal salon – if any brand’s sensibility says dream wedding gown, it is Delpozo.

The brand is currently under the creative direction of Josep Font. Their first pre-fall collection has just landed in store, providing a practical counterpoint to Delpozo’s more intricate, precious creations of mainlines past.

With lots to love, what are our favourites? A tangerine-dream cape, a maxi skirt, a sugary handbag, a sparkly top and an over-shirt that's a découpage delight.

Let's see how they stack up.

Crepe over-shirt, £1,450 (pictured above):

Sculpted curves are a staple Delpozo motif. We like their buoyant effect on this already cheerful over-shirt, studded with metallic, origami flowers around the décolletage. Delpozo style it with a fitted top and mini skirt to balance out its protuberant proportions. Smart!

Small "Benedetta" handbag in blossom, £1,150:

Sweet tooths, step right up! This handbag is legit arm candy. It carries over from the saccharine-coloured realm of Delpozo spring/summer 2016.

The Benedetta is the label’s signature shape. Look out for its seasonal incarnations in pop-colour bi-tones (pre-fall is all about acid green, red, mustard and black).

Silk georgette skirt, £1,550 (available in store):

This skirt is a good entrance-maker for the girl who loves to be fashionably late. Meadow green, floor-skimming, heavily draped in silk georgette – and the gathering details near the hem give the skirt a very imperious shape and sway. Strictly for gala affairs (and laundry days).

Cotton cape, £950 (available in store):

This cape is a tangerine dream. There is a distinct 60s vibe in its swinging, boxy shape. In any case, outerwear in this shade always irresistibly gives us Holly Golightly "stealing for the thrill" nostalgia.

Lurex top with bow in turquoise, £570:

Sparkly polo necks are all the rage, ever since Raf Simon’s Dior circa Tokyo (Esprit Dior pre-fall 2015). We love this rendition, finished with Delpozo’s paraph of a petal-shaped necktie. Best worn under ambient lighting (disco ball, or otherwise), where you’ll glimmer and shimmer in your intergalactic second skin.
