Sies Marjan has been on everyone’s radar since creative director Sander Lak debuted his first autumn/winter 2016 collection at New York Fashion Week in February. The designer’s easy, light and vibrant separates (think blanket coats, cropped trousers, and fine silks and satin) are elegant in the most contemporary way.

Brunei-born and Holland-raised Lak, who named his label after his father and mother’s given names respectively, trained at ArtEZ Academie in Arnhem before doing his MA at Central Saint Martins. The designer's pedigree - he went on to work with Dries Van Noten before moving to New York and setting up on his own label -  has ensured that he has already been snapped up by Selfridges (and Matchesfashion.com).

The inaugural Sies Marjan collection can be found in the Atrium space in Selfridges as part of an ongoing series of creative residencies. Lak has partnered with 1stdibs, an online luxury antiques marketplace, to create an environment that compliments his clothes. He will also be showcasing pieces in the same space as part of a unique collaboration. Launched in 2001, 1stdibs has become known for sourcing rare, desirable objects and connects the most prestigious dealers in fine art, jewellery, and fashion.

“I’ve been a huge 1stdibs fan for a long time now, so to be able to partner up in this way is exciting – a personal dream project!” says Lak. “For me, clothes and furniture are directly linked to each other. I love selecting and finding things I like, whether it’s a fabric, a garment or a lamp or an amazing chair. This is just the beginning, the future looks bright for what we can do together!”
