We’ve come to rely on Tamara and Natasha Surguladze, identical twin sisters behind the London-based label Tata Naka, for splashes of colour and humorous patterns that make us smile like the Cheshire Cat. “Our main thing is not to take things too seriously,” says Tamara. “We design for women who are not afraid to stand out and are fun and romantic. Our clothes are definitely not for a shy person!”

Tbilisi, where the sisters were born and raised, has a huge influence on their designs. “My grandmother’s house in Tbilisi was the inspiration for one of our collections from a couple of seasons ago,” Tamara says. “She had this colourful wallpaper, with traces of past generations that lived there and we designed the whole collection around that.”

Below, Tamara talks us through her upcoming week and shares some of her favourite restaurants, markets and shops in London.

Alfies Antique Market (13 - 25 Church St, NW8 8DT)

We are planning on branching into homeware and interiors at Tata Naka and one of my favourite places to go is Alfies Antique Market for furniture and lighting. They have incredible mid-century Italian furniture and everything is curated very well, almost like a museum. I’ve recently bought some furniture with Murano glass details and some 1960s Italian sideboards and cabinets that are quite rare.

Bocca Di Lupo (12 Archer St, W1D 7BB)

I love Italian food and one of my go-to places for lunch is Bocca Di Lupo in Soho. The restaurant’s menu features dishes from different regions in Italy. My favourite dishes are the orecchiette pasta with Nduja sausage and Roman-style fried artichokes. We just finished a collection – everything has been sent off to Paris this weekend – so we are celebrating the end of this crazy month by eating at this restaurant with friends.  

Jo Hansford (48 South Audley St, W1K 2QB)

For colour, I go to Jo Hansford on South Audley Street. Natasha and I cut our own hair because we don’t like it done too neatly – it has to be a bit messy. But we get our colour done professionally. I plan on getting highlights done this week before going on holiday because I love a lighter shade for summer.

John Sandoe Books (10 Blacklands Terrace, SW3 2SR)

My favourite bookshop to get books for the holidays is John Sandoe Books. It’s really old and small but has a huge selection. It’s got that charming, old-bookshop feel to it and the staff are really helpful. I’ve made quite a few purchases from there recently – right now, I’m reading two Iris Murdoch books I got from here. Her first book, Under the Net, is all about London. I think it’s one of the best books about the city.

Mostly, I go there to buy classics – I’m not really into bestsellers.

Luigi’s Delicatessen (349 Fulham Rd, SW10 9TW) 

For groceries, I normally go to the local grocers and delis. We have Luigi’s, the Italian deli down the road from our house that’s been around for ages. It’s super fun and has a great staff.

Weather permitting, we’re planning on having a barbecue this week, so we’ll get some meat and salads from Luigi’s and have friends over. Growing up in Georgia, we had so many big food markets where you can find out where everything comes from. I like to continue that tradition here.
