A Black Bag is the New Black
Why is this classic still a classic?
Because a black-leather bag is the one accessory that everyone should own. And thanks to the creative minds in fashion, it’s no longer all about the tote shape. A fluffy backpack, an architectural-flap purse or a handheld bucket bag – the black bag is finally getting a long-overdue makeover.
This new London-based bag brand is taking graphic, Bauhaus-inspired lines and creating covetable leather bags that are Instagram-ready. Reminiscent of both a spiral-bound textbook or a vintage school-bag, the Danse Lente Phoebe bag is there to carry all of your notes, as well as your phone, make-up and any other of life’s necessities.
A bag don’t get much more charming than an Anya Hindmarch bag. The British designer who brought us the customisation trend with her inimitable sticker designs, has just brought out a new indulgent accessory staple – a black shearling backpack, finished-off with a pair of googly eyes. Eye-catching indeed!
Yes, miniature bags are not necessarily the freshest trend in the world of fashion, but it takes a smart, space-savvy brain to engineer a functional piece of handheld decor this small. The LA-based sisters Kimberly and Nancy Wu, the brains behind Building Block, design for lovers of a minimalist aesthetic but add maximalist impact. Their Disc bag is a prime example of what they do best.
On the opposite side of the size spectrum, it’s the Roksanda Louise bag. An oversized carryall tote with jewellery-like detailing embodies Roksanda’s love for feminine, elegant fashion that transcends generations. It doesn’t really matter if you’re taking it to school, work or on mini-break in the countryside, this nouveau classic is all you need.
A simple, black, over-the shoulder bag is given a street makeover in the hands of Off-White’s Virgil Abloh. A celebrity favourite, Abloh takes well-known fashion elements and makes them feel thoroughly 2017. His black bag literally reflects the street with a yellow, logotype, tape-like strap and some heavy-duty-inspired hardware. Caution, high fashion ahead!
