Shop The Good Drop
There are not many items in Selfridges’ storied floors selling £1 coin purses and £8 luggage. But it’s Art Angel’s latest “art happening” in London that sees some used treasure being re-sold in the department store’s partner project with artist and actress Miranda July’s interfaith charity shop. Three years and a half in gestation, taking the form of back and forth debates, discussions, trials and tribulations between July and Art Angel’s directors, the fruition of the charity shop built on the 3rd floor of Selfridges (adjacent to Vetements no less) sees a delightful mix of vintage clothes and shoes, knick knacks and books (Joan Collin classics included).
Our Top Pick from the pile: A St John's vintage suit
With four charities of different faiths - the Norwood Jewish Charity Shop, London Buddhist Centre Charity Shop, Spitalfields Crypt Trust Charity shop and Islamic Relief Charity Shop - manning the boutique on a daily basis, this is a testament to Art Angel’s prowess in negotiation skills, wading through several months of convincing different charities and faiths to work alongside each other for July’s art project. Each charity will receive 25% of the profits, and in turn, must donate 2.5% of their profits to another charity of choice.
The art of giving is here in practice and both the curious, the fashionista and the art-lover will surely love this project from the legendary Art Angel team - where their mission is to provide “Extraordinary Art, Unexpected Places”
