Red can be a hard colour to pull of – it's loud, showy and, when done incorrectly, can leave you looking like a looming cherry tomato. But, when it's done right, boooy is it good.

The colour – worn head-to-toe – was everywhere on autumn/winter 2017 catwalks (Givenchy, Jil Sander, Fendi we're looking at you...), and this week we've plucked up the courage to try our hand at wearing the look. To dip your toe in the red sea, try Alexa Chung's cropped two tone wool cardigan – wear it buttoned up as a jumper or with a plain white tee under.

Right now, we're a fan of heavy knits worn over long, dainty skirts à la Balenciaga and is there anything dreamier than an Alexander Wang satin slip skirt? To accessorise, add some fun Elise Tsikis red tassled earrings and a Givenchy trainer with a subtle red backing.

Now that you're a walking stop sign – in the best way – why not delve into a book celebrating one of the most inspirational red heads out there: Grace Coddington. The book Grace documents her time as creative director of American Vogue and, filled with personal photos and anecdotes, is a real treat.
