How time flies when you’re having fun (not to mention clocking-up accolades left, right and centre).

Celebrating her 10th year in design – a decade that’s included collaborations with John Smedley and Swarovski, a high-street partnership with River Island, and forays into the universe of luxury interiors – Holly Fulton marks the occasion with a FW18 collection that’s an ode to her label’s signature shapes and aesthetic.

Despite paying homage to her motherland, Scotland, key references throughout nod to Holly’s long-distance love affair with New York: “I was once given a pamphlet from the 1920s on the opening of the Empire State building, which had an amazing graphic image on it that’s always resonated with me.”

With Pop Art and Art Deco references in abundance, the season’s offering is unapologetically ‘Holly Fulton’ – harking back to the ideas that debuted during those early Fashion East shows, which were as she describes, “the purest form.”

“I wasn’t thinking about the commercial aspect; there was no right or wrong. I love bright colours and a lot of jewellery. This is what excites me – and, importantly, it allows access points for people to come into our brand.”

As always with a Holly Fulton collection, this one is not without its collaborators; in keeping with an endeavour for local production, here saw John Smedley and Harris Tweed partner to create fine-gauge knitted tracksuits, jumper dresses and jacquard repeats. “It’s important to have close interactions,” Holly explains. “Ultimately, that’s when you get the best product.”

For Holly Fulton, the future is certainly looking bright, as she stands on the precipice of decade number two. “I’m feeling super positive in terms of both the brand and the industry going forwards. It’s our duty to step up and think about what we’re doing in terms of our carbon footprint. It’s a learning curve for us, but we’re on that journey and keen to progress.”
