I’m panicking. Jumper season is upon us and I can't, for the life of me, remember how to dress for it...

In such times, it pays to remind oneself that Rome wasn’t built in a day; so it goes with the winter wardrobe. In these early stages of the annual big freeze, I’m reconciling myself with a fool-proof folio of style staples that need very little brain power to execute (thereby making them the most valuable garments that one will ever own – irrespective of actual cash value).

The sartorial worth of a humble V-neck, for example, far outweighs the sum of its parts. Casual, but not so casual as to appear like you’ve rolled out of bed and reached for your loungewear, this most ubiquitous of knits can be nipped and tucked to within an inch of its life – and will come out laughing time and again. Sculpt the silhouette with a wide waist belt; tuck it à la Tan France to hint at nonchalant styling; wear it loose and voluminous to leave room for the seasonal onslaught of mince pies. Anything goes... And therein lies the magic of a V-neck!

Ninety Percent is a London-based label launched in 2018 with the drive to do things differently. Its name is born from a business promise and model that sees 90% of distributable profits shared between charities and the workers who bring the collection to life. Where possible, fabrics are responsibly sourced and produced – its tucked-rib V-neck, for example, is crafted in Merino Wool and made ethically in Bangladesh – and the entire chain aims for total transparency.

It’s glowing evidence that one needn’t make a visually maximalist statement for your look to boast some serious clout.
