Do you remember what it’s like to be 20 years young? Perhaps you are in fact 20 years young – or still have it all to look forward to (y’lucky devil, you!).

For Judith Milgrom, it was an age of opportunity, discovery and hard graft. It was the time that she, a then-intern at Sandro – her sister’s company, would set about learning the ropes and planning for her own professional labour of love. Maje.

This year, that same passion project (now one of the most globally successful purveyors of Parisian chic on the market) is celebrating its own 20th birthday, marked with a nostalgic yearbook-esque campaign shot by Coco Capitán that recaptures the essence of what it is to be in the first of your post-teen years.

So, what did that moment equate to for Judith? Join her, and us, on a trip down memory lane...

What does the age 20 mean to you?
It’s definitely an in-between stage – a pivotal transition from adolescence to adulthood. It’s the age when you think that everything is possible, and when you want to take some risks. That’s why the motto of our 20th anniversary is “Dream tomorrow!”. At 20, you don’t want to look back at your past; you want to look forwards whilst still enjoying your present… Because you’re only 20 once!

What were you doing at that age?
When I was 20 years-old, I was working with my elder sister Evelyne – who founded Sandro in the mid-1980s – and I was already a mother. I was living my dream, discovering all of the tasks of the job, starting as an intern and going on to stay in the company for almost 10 years. When I was 20 years-old, I started to feel much more confident – like I was becoming a woman. My advice to that person then, would be to believe in your dreams and do everything you can to achieve them.

What do you think the biggest differences are between people who are 20 now and people who were 20 in, say, 1990?
Today, 20 year-olds are so much more connected to the world; the internet and rise of social media has changed so much, including the pace of things. They are less patient; they want everything now... But, they are also more well-informed! I guess that’s a positive thing, since it means that they are more concerned by ethical questions and environmental issues.

What's a defining moment in the 20-year history of Maje?
I’ll always remember the first stores that we opened in Paris... Three opened at the same time! I was very anxious, and I remember standing in front of one of the stores, almost hidden, and trying to see who would enter it. I couldn’t believe that so many women would visit us! This is one of my first memories of Maje that I’ll never forget…

What does the next 20 years hold?
In 20 years’ time, I hope to still be living my dream and my passion.
