Marco de Vincenzo has a lot to celebrate this season. After more than two decades in the business – including 10 years at the helm of his eponymous namesake label – this season saw the Italian designer debut his menswear collection at Pitti Uomo to much acclaim.

Best known for his innate bag craft (the designer holds the post of Leathergoods Head Designer at Fendi), it came as a surprise to recently learn his true affections lie elsewhere; not within bag design, but ready-to-wear.

A master fabric manipulator, Marco’s first men’s offering saw him utilise the craft he refined at Fendi. He demonstrated a unique ability to experiment with luxurious leather, lacquered macrame and pleated wool – all of which further cement his reputation as one of Italy's most innovative designers.

What's the mantra you tell yourself first thing in the morning?
Today will be like yesterday, but better.

How do you take your coffee?
Black, bitter, long, made with mocha. A coffee moment should be as long as possible.

If you weren't doing what you're doing now, what would you be doing instead?
I would have been a cartoonist.

If you could only keep one outfit in your wardrobe, which would it be?
A black light wool sweater with a pair of vintage jeans.

Who's one person you'd love to have dinner with?
Meryl Streep. I would like to tell her she's perfect in every way.

What are your goals for 2019?
Live more carefree.

Who would you want to record your audio autobiography, voice-wise?
Willem Dafoe – his voice in “Ring” brings me great joy.

Why did you end up doing what you do?
Because fashion is the most beautiful serious game.
