"Perfection is attained by slow degrees," Voltaire famously said: "It requires the hand of time..."

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Voltaire’s is not a philosophy that’s shared by many businesses in this day and age. After all, when 'time is money', the speed of execution is often at the apex of a company’s priority list.

And yet, in the backlash against fast fashion, there’s a rising trend for designers who are determined to stem the tide of swift production.

It’s here that you’ll find Grace Han. Launching her namesake flagship this week in London’s Knightsbridge, this couture-minded bag designer epitomises the fabled adage of "slow and steady wins the race". The results of her painstaking process – which have been nearly 10 years in the making – speak for themselves...

Han’s signature style, the Ballet Lesson, is fronted by a pleated panel that’s been hand-crafted over the course of 24 hours, using a technique that took Grace and her team nearly seven years to perfect; the rest of the bag, constructed in Italy, is the product of a rigorous testing process that involved over 100 different glues, leathers and hardware prototypes. The latter were all stress-tested to prevent corrosion, rusting and staining.

Elegance with longevity is the name of Grace's game. These are heirloom creations, designed to have and to hold – generation after generation.

The Grace Han boutique opens on Friday 1 February, 2019 at 13 Beauchamp Place, Knightsbridge, SW3 1NQ.
