The master of the to-die-for party pieces, Han Chong of self-portrait knows what outfits will make women want to dance. Be it a satin midi, an embellished velvet jumpsuit, or one of his many designs with his signature eyelet lace, ruffles and sheer panels, self-portrait has had eveningwear occasions covered since its 2013 inception. We thought it couldn’t get any better… Until now!

For Spring/Summer 2019, the brand now makes its foray into swimwear with a Balearic Island-inspired collection, which sees Han imbue his artistic nous across figure-flattering silhouettes, kaftans and chiffon dresses. In 1970s-esque florals and multicoloured geometric patterns that nod to the Art Deco styles of yesteryear, these looks are getting us ready to lounge in the sun with that retro glamour.

What’s the mantra you tell yourself first thing in the morning?

Keep your eyes open – it’s a new day with fresh opportunities to discover something new and inspiring!

How do you take your coffee?
Oat milk latte.

If you weren't doing what you're doing now, what would you be doing instead?
Fine art! I studied this originally before moving into fashion.

If you could only keep one outfit in your wardrobe, which would it be?
A Fedora hat, white T-shirt, tailored navy trousers and Celine slides.

Who's one person you'd love to have dinner with?
Michelle Obama – she’s an inspiration!

What's the main thing you would like to achieve this year?
Self-portrait celebrated its 5th year in November last year. In that time, I’ve learnt so much about starting successful fashion business and understand how hard it can be. I want to be able to support the designers of tomorrow in doing the same. Self-portrait have partnered with Central Saint Martins to offer a scholarship on the MA Fashion course and we’ve recently selected the first recipient, Alex Wolfe. His work has demonstrated a passion for creating his own path and I am looking forward to supporting him on this journey.

Who would you want to record your audio autobiography, voice-wise?
The actress, Michelle Yeoh.

Why did you end up doing what you do?
Because fashion is the most versatile art form…. We live our lives in it!
