The ‘modern woman’ takes on many guises: A multi-hyphenate mother, an entrepreneur, a dynamic businesswoman in the city. Such women demand clothes that work as hard as they do. Clothes that radiate confidence and are equal parts chic as they are comfort-first.

It takes a modern woman to know the needs and wants of another – and as a style-savvy mother of four, with a design philosophy derived from bi-coastal living and juggling the perennial battle of balancing ‘life’ and work, Rosetta Getty, couldn’t be more in tune.

While knitwear and streamlined tailoring makes for her ‘signatures’, Getty too experiments with fabrics of the night like satin and lurex to bring them into a daytime context – challenging consumer preconceptions. Neutral, earth tones juxtapose their bright accessory counterparts, and checks and florals appear season-on-season as returning tropes.

What’s the mantra you tell yourself first thing in the morning?
I don’t have a mantra, but I meditate first thing in the morning. It helps me to collect my thoughts and stay calm through busy moments of my life.

How do you take your coffee?
Black with skimmed milk and organic stevia.

If you weren’t doing what you’re doing now, what would you be doing instead?
I would be an architect or interior designer: I like creating environments. I have done up a lot of homes over my time and think this is just another way of expressing myself through design. I find the work of women like Annabelle Selldorf and Elizabeth Diller particularly inspiring.

If you could only keep one outfit in your wardrobe, which would it be?
I would say the shirtdress, it is a staple in my wardrobe. This has been a part of our brand’s DNA since the start and a signature of mine for years before that. It serves so many purposes and is an effortless piece. When I wear it, I feel elegant and put together but at ease.

Who’s one person you’d love to have dinner with?
The one person I would have dinner with is Louise Bourgeois. She is my absolute favorite artist. I love how she explores the greatest depths of the female psyche through her work.

What’s the main thing you would like to achieve this year?
To work on meaningful projects by continuing to reach a higher level of sustainability in our production methods and techniques, as well as supporting charitable causes through direct to customer sales.

Who would you want to record your audio autobiography, voice-wise?
My dream person to record the audio of my autobiography is Patti Smith. She’s someone I relate to greatly because of her shyness and artistry.

Why did you end up doing what you do?
Because at the time I felt the huge need for a beautiful, functional and timeless collection for a modern women like myself. Since I have been designing my entire life it made perfect sense for me to start a brand that would fulfil this need.
