Because there’s no place quite like the Great British high street – from its niche independents, to seasonal Pop Ups and those expansive yet elegant department stores – Because Magazine is on a mission to champion the bricks-and-mortar of London in all its glory. Each week, we’ll beeline to the rails of our favourite retailers to scope out the must-have pieces and in-store exclusives that are more than worth making an effort for.

In the heart of Islington, Être Cécile has carved out a space as the destination for core chic pieces, which nod to the simplicity of French style.

Founded by fashion heads, Yasmin Sewell and Kyle Robinson, who modelled the brand on a fictional character, Cécile  an Irish artist living in 1960s Paris with a love of fashion – the brand is your one-stop shop for Parisian insouciance.

From playfully printed tricolour tees and sweatshirts to Jane Birkin-inspired ready-to-wear, the brand defies trends with its focus on seasonal pieces. To learn of the top three classic Être Cécile pieces of the moment, we got the inside scoop from Store Manager, Phillip.

What… Navy Breton Stripe Eleanor Dress.

Because…. “It shows where we are going now: silk is a new fabrication for us, and we are trying to go more into ready-to-wear, whilst still keeping the shirts and sweaters that we are known for. Because it's the breton stripe, it kind of personifies this whole chic, French style that we are known for as a brand. It’s the perfect summer dress!”

What…Stars Petite Amie Shirt.

Because… “Shirting and tailoring is a great market for us, but we always do it from a unique point of view. We always have some sort of fun print, which a lot of brands try to stay away from.”

What...Don’t Panic it's Organic T-shirt.

Because... “This is our first organic T-shirt for Pre-Fall. Going into AW19 all of our shirts will be organic cotton, so that's our new strong message. I picked this T-shirt because it’s essentially where we began as a brand; we started as a luxury shirt brand and then diversified into other clothes.”
