Because there’s no place quite like the Great British high street – from its niche independents, to seasonal Pop Ups and those expansive yet elegant department stores – Because Magazine is on a mission to champion the bricks-and-mortar of London in all its glory. Each week, we’ll beeline to the rails of our favourite retailers to scope out the must-have pieces and in-store exclusives that are more than worth making an effort for.

This week, we've popped into the eclectic world of Koibird, where its travel and destination ready-to-wear translates into an exotic retail experience

Belma Gaudio, the Creative Director of Koibird, takes us through the must-have pieces from the new season.

What... Chenille Patchwork Kaftan from the Morphew x Koibird collaboration.

Because... "Morphew is a vintage go-to in New York,  a place where a lot of designers go to to get inspired because they re-work pieces. They’re really flamboyant. We worked together to pick some old fabrics and work them into new pieces; they're using vintage chenille blankets that we’ve reworked into these robes and kaftans. They’re really special, with lots of colour and work and it’s really great to take something that is this beautiful already and rework it into an awesome piece of clothing, instead of throwing it away. This is definitely one of the brands that I’m really excited about this season, especially because I did it with them."

What... C’est La V Woodstock Flared Pants.

Because... "We mixed and matched certain fabrics to make these 70s flowered, flared trousers. We did these in this fabulous Californian, 70s style print. I used to have these when I was 12 and I thought I was the coolest! They come in different prints, a dungaree skirt and a dress but I love these. A real nostalgic find."

What... Brother Vellies Bianca Ostrich Boots.

Because... "My third pick are these fabulous mesh and feather boots by Brother Vellies. It’s a New York-based label started by Aurora James, who manufacture them in four different countries: Africa, South Africa, Ethiopia, Kenya and Morocco. She travels there, uses the local artisans and gets inspired by each country's traditional shoe making process. The local artisans make the shoes, which is a really nice story, and the shoes themselves are super sexy! It’s an amazing going out boot; for summer, night-time, day-time, festivals, whatever. This is definitely one of my favourite pieces in the store."
