Because there’s no place quite like the Great British high street – from its niche independents, to seasonal Pop Ups and those expansive yet elegant department stores – Because Magazine is on a mission to champion the bricks-and-mortar of London in all its glory. Each week, we’ll beeline to the rails of our favourite retailers to scope out the must-have pieces and in-store exclusives that are more than worth making an effort for.

This week, we’re at 5 Carlos Place for Matches Fashion – where Buying Director, Natalie Kingham, is introducing us to the pieces new in from designers John-Paul Pietrus, Marta Ferri and Harris Reed, as part of SS19's instalment of The Innovators.

What… Serpent Sunglasses by John-Paul Pietrus

Because… “I saw his glasses before I met him and I thought that they were incredible. Even with the amount of product I see, I’ve never witnessed anything like them before! I knew that our customers had to see what he’s doing. This is fine jewellery for the face!”

What… Off-shoulder buttoned dress and yellow trousers by Marta Ferri.

Because… “Marta modelled this look for me when we started discussing this capsule. When you walk it billows out behind you; with the pants, it looks so modern. That said, it also has this kind of silver-screen nostalgia about it, but it's brought right up-to-date by being ankle length and comfortable with the trousers.”

What…
Purple jacquard dress by Harris Reed.

Because... "It's hard to choose your favourite piece with Harris. You can see his DNA and his flamboyance in everything; it’s so gender-fluid, and he looks so incredible in it. I like that this look is more versatile. He’s such a good stylist in the way that he puts it all together! It’s a new way of looking at luxury. You won’t find these things unless you have a secret address book.
