Because there’s no place quite like the Great British high street – from its niche independents, to seasonal Pop Ups and those expansive yet elegant department stores – Because Magazine is on a mission to champion the bricks-and-mortar of London in all its glory. Each week, we’ll beeline to the rails of our favourite retailers to scope out the must-have pieces and in-store exclusives that are more than worth making an effort for.

This week, we’re at Paper Mache Tiger – where staffer, Duncan Boyce, is selecting the winning style moments from Islington's newly merchandised boutique.

What… Unisex raw denim jeans by Herculie

BecauseWe do these jeans in three different colours, as well as in fits that are for men, women and unisex; I’m currently wearing the slim, unisex look. The clothes are produced in Portugal and designed by our director, Kyle Robinson.

What... Embroidered denim jacket by Être Cécile

Because... Être Cécile is actually a womenswear brand, but I’ll often wear this jacket around the shop. It fits really nicely and goes well with the other denims that we have here. There’s towelling stitched onto the front and back, and multicoloured blotches of embroidery.

What… Rainy Days in the Lake District Room Spray by Lola James Harper

Because... I really love this brand, particular its Rainy Days in the Lake District scent. The guy behind it used to make the fragrances for Chanel, before he set up Lola James Harper, which I believe is loosely named after his children. Rami (that’s his name) creates fragrances and smells based upon memories and locations that he’s been to. I travel a lot and can definitely relate… Designing a fragrance that can make you reminisce of a space or place that you’ve been to before is a brilliant way of remembering it. We also do the fragrances as scented candles.
