Because there’s no place quite like the Great British high street – from its niche independents, to seasonal Pop Ups and those expansive yet elegant department stores – Because Magazine is on a mission to champion the bricks-and-mortar of London in all its glory. Each week, we’ll beeline to the rails of our favourite retailers to scope out the must-have pieces and in-store exclusives that are more than worth making an effort for. This week, we're on Beak Street.

Bringing a pocket of Copenhagen-cool to our Capital, as of last week Samsøe & Samsøe (which started out in Copenhagen’s Latin Quarter in 1993 and was bought by Peter Sextus and Per-Ulrik Andersen in 2000) landed in Soho with its inaugural London store.

What to expect? C
ontemporary ready-to-wear with a Scandinavian sensibility (read: wearable, utilitarian and minimal). Eager to learn of the separates to pine after, we met with International Visual Merchandiser, Mitchell Vergeer, and Store Manager, Henrik Okholmto learn more.

What... Bethune jacket.

Because... "Outwear is one of our strongest groups; it's a central part of Scandinavian culture as in those climates you have to deal with the elements of autumn all year round. And this is an iconic shape for us. I think everyone wants to have a jacket in this shape – and if you don’t have it already, you've probably seen it somewhere but you've never been able to find it. This shape has been in our collections for quite long, so it's really a heritage fit for us."

What... Alexandria shirt.

Because... "This look is certainly for the modern woman. The blouse is a very typical scandinavian look and cut. It's a bit more of a straight cut but a very feminine flair to it with the silk fabric. At Samsøe & Samsøe we play with feminine shapes when it comes to the women's collection. The brand adapts typical scandinavian simplicity to the urban lifestyle of Londoners, a more international approach. "

What... Alsop skirt.

Because... "This skirt has a nice bell-bottom; it's very flowy. It's a very simple piece, but it's strong and independent – it
embodies the Samsøe brand. It's a simple colourway but the materials are the key part when it comes to these designs, durable, quality materials. High elegance. "
