We’re living in uncertain times – and, in a serious case of pathetic fallacy, the weather is proving no exception. With the forecasts changing direction at a rate of knots (with balmy breezes switching instantaneously into so-called ‘Arctic cyclones’), it takes a certain savviness to navigate the days unflustered.

A trans-seasonal jacket is worth its weight in gold for this very reason, capable of seeing us through these tricky times – with very little effort required.

Listen and learn: These are three of the best.

The Bomb(er)
A perennial piece that elevates any outfit with a streetwise energy, the c rarely puts a foot wrong.

Coming into its own when worn with extra layering during frostier days, and unzipped with a shirt as the mercury climbs, a fool-proof Bomber rings in instant style kudos for its relaxed silhouette and #WokeUpLikeThis vibe.

Nodding to the style’s military roots, Alpha Industries’ and Loewe’s oversized iterations make for the chicest armour in which to face the world; meanwhile we’re putting our faith in MOTHER and Calvin Klein 205W39NYC to bring a fun, retro spin to the stalwart, that’s just so right for now.

Dynamite Denim
Typically considered to be a throw-on-and-go summer staple, denim jackets join the Bomber in lending themselves well to welcoming in layers galore. If not a high-neck base, then consider an elevated hooded sweater to be your best friend when looking for pieces to partner them up with.

Leaning on the oversized side to accommodate heftier styles beneath, Raey’s quilted silhouette is a failsafe move – however, if you’re looking to introduce some shape and accentuate your waistline, opt for a belted number à la M.i.h. Jeans’ new take on the trenchcoat, or a neatly nipped confection by A.P.C.. Denim just got elevated!

Luxe Leather (Not Leather)
As Abigail recently explained: “Vegan leather may sound like an oxymoron – but the reality is far from moronic.”

And so, with umpteen brilliant leather-not-leather jackets on the market, we’re choosing to keep our hides cruelty free. In addition to Stella McCartney’s fringed look (as spotlighted in Abigail’s piece, although seen this time in its cream iteration), we’re crushing over Seoul-based We11Done’s red oversized style, alongside LOW CLASSIC’s belted white number to see us through the season.
