Our weekend pick? Tim Walker: Wonderful Things at the Victoria and Albert Museum. Allowing us to delve into the imagination of one of the world’s most inventive fashion photographers, Walker’s exhibition takes us on an immersive journey into the fantastical worlds he has created through his photography. He features ten new photoshoots, immersive sets, spectacular film footage and an extraordinary collaborative process.
The exhibition highlights Walker’s signature style – theatrical, bordering on surrealist, whilst undeniably romantic. But what makes this show even more compelling is how Walker’s long-term collaborator, set designer Shona Heath, has created such an imaginative, other-worldly display. You step directly into the photographs, as opposed to stepping into the familiar world of the gallery. And in a world of uncertainty, having the ability to escape is a Wonderful Thing.
Moving from medieval, to domesticity, to bourgeois, this visual feast is nothing less than a high-fashion fairytale.
