We’ve never been big fans of Black Friday: acts of overconsumption that could cause up to 22,080,000,000kg of carbon being emitted into the atmosphere (as predicted by the Dirty Delivery Report) doesn’t fly in our books.

But with 2020 – which can only be described as a bombshell of a year – leaving many feeling a lot less merry and with lighter pockets for the season ahead, we can understand the appeal of those big discounts and small price points. With that in mind, we’ve made a Black Friday edit – actually, more of a Give Back Friday edit – of brands who are taking this day as an opportunity to help others and/or our planet. Check out the brands below if you want your Black Friday purchase to be beneficial to others, as well as a treat for yourself.

Allbirds
It’s common on Black Friday to find that retailers have slashed their prices, but this year, this eco-footwear brand is raising them. Yes, you read that correctly; as of Friday 27th, Allbirds will be raising all the prices on their website by £1, which will be matched by the brand themselves, and the additional proceeds will be donated directly to Fridays For Future, the youth-led international climate movement founded by climate activist Greta Thunberg. Whether it be a running shoe made of renewable materials, or some of their new eco-friendly apparel, your shop will help stop the effects of climate change.

Sabah
As a brand who values and preserves traditional, artisanal techniques, Sabah, and their delightful Turkish slippers are worthy of support. For this season, they’re bringing new meaning to the spirit of giving by donating 2,000 meals (or $5,000) to St Joseph's House in the East Village, New York – a soup kitchen that’s part of the Coalition for the Homeless organisation. As well as this, from Monday 23rd to Monday 30th, for every pair of Sabahs or Babas purchased, Sabah will donate the equivalent of 10 meals ($25) to the St. Joseph's House.

REN Skincare
For any beauty buffs out there, look to REN Skincare for products that are as good to your skin as they are to the planet. This Black Friday, they'll be offering 20% off everything, with 15% of sales being donated to Planet Patrol to help clean up our oceans and if you spend over £60, they'll gift two free products to Beauty Banks. And this is all part of their pledge to become Zero waste by 2021, meaning that all of their packaging will be 100% recycled, recyclable and reusable.
