Because there’s no place quite like the Great British high street – from its niche independents, to seasonal Pop-Ups and those expansive yet elegant department stores – Because Magazine is on a mission to champion the bricks-and-mortar of London in all its glory. Each week, we’ll beeline to the rails of our favourite retailers to scope out the must-have pieces and in-store exclusives that are more than worth making an effort for. This week, we're at the Begg x Co flagship in Chelsea to find out more about the Scottish brand's first physical store.

*Update* Begg x Co (177 Draycott Avenue, London, SW3 3AJ) will reopen on December 2nd. Until then, you can book a personal shopping appointment via londonstore@beggxco.com

On the calm west side of Sloane Square, Draycott Avenue welcomes a new addition to its lineup of luxury boutiques. In good company with Forte Forte, Joseph and Chanel, Begg x Co is right at home with the opening of its flagship, making a cosy trek from Scotland.

The opening of their first physical store comes as we store our summer clothes away (albeit a bit reluctantly) and reach for our cosy accessories. Made in Scotland since 1866, Begg x Co is known for their 100% cashmere scarves and stoles that have stood the test of time and offer a feeling of decadence as you wrap yourself in the soft material or drape them lazily over the couch. It's only fitting then that their blends of lambswool angora, cashmere silk and cotton linen be given their own home in London, allowing customers to get the full sensorial experience (after you've sanitised your hands, of course).

We paid a visit to get a tour of the space from International Sales Manager, Salvador Chillaron and Store Manager, Harriet Gilbertson; the duo picked out their 3 favourite items and Salvador explains why.

What… Nuance Ombre Scarf

Because… "The colour way is raspberry thistle and it's quite special as you can see because we hand-dyed the colours. By doing this technique, you get a beautiful gradation in colour. It's really special because there's only a few people in the world doing this."

What… Tweedy Roll Collar Sweater

Because… "Autumn/Winter 20 is the first time that we're launching knitwear at Begg x Co so we're quite excited. This piece is really representative of our ethos because it's unisex. It's really remarkable because the yarn is a combination of three different colours and everything is made up in Scotland."

What… Washed Beaufort McLaren Scarf

Because… "The composition is 90% lambswool, 10% cashmere and is washed. Personally, I really like it because it's kind of a modern tartan and it goes really well with the theme of this season, which is called, 'Calling All Paisley Punks' so it has some music vibes."
