We don't need to hark on about why we should all be thinking more sustainably – there's enough news about the climate crisis to clearly tell us that – but even for the best of us, we still need a nudge in the environmentally friendly direction to make the changes that'll better our planet.

In this day and age, a reusable coffee cup is no longer your get-out-of-jail-free-card for acting sustainably in other areas of your life. Now more than ever, we need to be putting our green thinking caps on and addressing how we can buy more sustainably with the clothes we wear, the beauty we put on our skin and the ornaments we place in our homes. So, this September, we're doing exactly that.

Our new 'Sustainable September' series will be highlighting the best sustainably-minded products and brands that range over fashion, beauty and homeware, everyday throughout the month, showing that there are earth-affable options that you can opt for. Today, we're looking at, BITE Studio , a brand sinking their teeth into eco-friendly materials in luxury fashion.

What it's like to wear rose petals? No, not like the American Beauty way, where Angela Hayes ‘wore’ them in one of cinema's most iconic scenes; we mean wearing them as actual pieces of clothing. Still confused? Don’t worry, we also were at first when we initially heard about BITE Studio’s ingenious creation of rose petal silk. This biodegradable fabric is made using waste petals that are broken down and spun into fibres – read: clothes that won't end up sitting on landfills. Now, that's the type of rose petals we can envision ourselves in.

Co-founded in 2016 by a collective of created minds based between Stockholm and London, BITE Studio’s collective mission was to create sustainable fashion with an aesthetic that hadn’t been seen before in the movement. And, succeed they did; maxi silk dresses, trench coats, beautiful white shirts and chunky knit jumpers, encompass the modern minimalist persona the brand identifies with, and they make the perfect additions to add to your everyday staples.

The brand is clearly committed to finding the finest quality natural organic fibres, recycled and low impact fabrics, so much so, that they named themselves after their very initiative: By Independent Thinkers for Environmental Progress – a.k.a BITE. Like their name suggests, their roster of materials are as innovative as they are earth-friendly, ranging from the aforementioned rose petal fibre to Cupro, a biodegradable material made from the linter of cotton (the fibre that envelopes the seeds of a cotton plant).

BITE are proving that every piece of clothing can be designed with a purpose, and are doing this by using materials that have the lowest possible impact on the environment. They are truly redesigning the way clothes are made, and how we wear and feel in them. Bite into their new collection to get a taste for yourself.
