We don't need to hark on about why we should all be thinking more sustainably – there's enough news about the climate crisis to clearly tell us that – but even for the best of us, we still need a nudge in the environmentally friendly direction to make the changes that'll better our planet.

In this day and age, a reusable coffee cup is no longer your get-out-of-jail-free-card for acting sustainably in other areas of your life. Now more than ever, we need to be putting our green thinking caps on and addressing how we can buy more sustainably with the clothes we wear, the beauty we put on our skin and the ornaments we place in our homes. So, this September, we're doing exactly that.

Our new 'Sustainable September' series will be highlighting the best sustainably-minded products and brands that range over fashion, beauty and homeware, everyday throughout the month, showing that there are earth-affable options that you can opt for. Today, we're looking at Sankt, a 100% transparent and locally sourced brand on our radar.

Getting started on a sustainable wardrobe can often feel like a daunting step as you shift away from shopping at your usual brands, with the prospect that you could be limiting your choices in terms of styles and trends. While scary at first, inevitably this will be a rewarding move in the right direction, and if there is one thing we hope our series has proved, it is that there is a growing catalogue of sustainable brands that are not only fashionable, but also don’t have to break the bank.

An exciting brand that has come onto our radar is Sankt; a sustainable fashion label from Turkey established by sisters Merve and Hande in 2015. The idea to start a brand initially came about in 2014, when the sisters decided to create an international womenswear brand, but wanting to be unique in a highly saturated market, chose to look inwards at the locally based artisans, recognising the unique designs and wealth they had on their doorstep.

Maximising on the specific items in your wardrobe, and the number of times you will wear them, is helped when you purchase timeless and trans-seasonal pieces that inevitably will slow down your need to buy into the continuous flow of 'micro-trends'. The sisters' main focus for their brand has been directed towards shirts, and their ability to dress up and down any outfit. Take their silk taffeta blouse with puff sleeves, or their pointy tunic shirt, it is clear the brands aptness at creating classic shapes with a contemporary twist, perfectly captures Sankt’s ability to create perennial pieces that are elegant yet simple; so you'll be reaching for them again and again.

Sankt prides itself on being 100% transparent and carefully regulated, to avoid waste and over production. The sister’s don’t stop there, they also maintain a close relationship with the local ateliers who give their locally and responsibly sourced material form and expression. With an ethos of creating pieces that “become an extension of your personality”, it makes sense that the brand’s focus is on distinct and fine finishes with artisanal details. So, by investing in brands like Sankt, when we do want to part with our money, we'll be able to purchase incredible quality garments that will be worn again and again, guilt free.
