Bill Cunningham once said that "Fashion is the armour to survive the reality of everyday life," and his words couldn’t reign more relevant than now. Pyjamas and loungewear seem to be the uniform of choice for those currently cooped indoors, and while it’s to be expected that comfort is taking precedence over style, why can’t we have both? A meticulously crafted combination of cosy and chic can be easily achieved in an outfit if some creative thinking is at play, and we’ve created this styling series to show exactly that

This week, we’re looking at how we can inventively dress up a pair of tracksuit bottoms, to give some new life into this snug loungewear staple. Be prepared for the battles brought upon us in our new normal routines, with these sets of lounging luxe outfits.

Look One: Zoom Call Chic
One thing we can be thankful during this period, is the positive illusion that top-half dressing can give. Using video calls as the setting for said styling, a well dressed torso can evoke interpretations of someone having their shit together, despite the reality (that would be apparent if the whole outfit was visible) that they probably don’t. To achieve said look, jewellery is an essential. A chunky chain necklace, like this Marni one will elevate any tracksuit combo – We’re vibing this Les Tiens set for its ultra coziness levels. Pairing necklace and sweater is the quarantine equivalent of smart/casual office-wear. And to truly reign in the benefits of being at home, finish the look with a pair of cashmere socks, like this tie-dye pair from The Elder Statesman

Look Two: The Essential Grocery Shop
Now that we’re limited to only going to the supermarket for essentials, the amount of impressions that we can give through our clothes are also limited . While you don’t want to seem too desperate for the dress codes we were used to wearing, – e.g. DO NOT wear your favourite party dress, it’ll only suggest you’ve lost your mind from staying indoors too long – it’s confidence boosting to give off an effortless aura when it comes to your style. Opt for a wide-leg tracky bottom; to show that you’re still trend conscious even in your comfort-wear, like these Extreme Cashmere track pants, and pair with a simple white ribbed tank (Arket have mastered the fit superbly). You won’t need any excessively large tote, a simple cross body bag like this Jil Sander one will suffice, and slide on a Balenciaga heeled mule to ennoble the minimal but classic outfit.

Look Three: 30 Minutes of Exercise, But Make it Fashion
Whether it be going for a run in your local area, or hitting it hard in an online workout, we all need to do a bit of exercising, and therefore, need something to wear when doing so. A cropped jogging bottom and sports bra means your body can cool down quicker if you’re heating up, and a bold coloured cardigan will brighten up your gym gear for when your workout is over. Of course, you will need a suitable trainer to perform such activities. These New Balance pair master the fashionable trainer fine line: a shoe that is comfortable enough for sports, but also cute enough to wear with any outfit.
