Yesterday we saw the announcement of the LVMH winner (congrats Nensi!) happening live on our screens, and yet the award celebrations don't stop there. The finalists of the BFC Changemakers Prize, in partnership with Swarovski, have finally been announced, all of whom are being awarded for their positive influence on the industry.

John Hickling, the founder of Glass Onion in South Yorkshire, is the chosen winner for the Environmental pillar. His business is a vintage and remade clothing provider to the high street, who have recently launched a DTC website. Sorting and grading fifteen tonnes of used clothing each week, they're growing a factory that only ‘remakes’ vintage clothing – cutting, sewing and remaking 12,000 pieces per month. Glass Onion's work promoting a circular fashion economy prevents thousands of pieces of clothes being sent to landfill every year, and quite rightly makes them a worthy winner for their eco-friendly efforts.

In the People category, hairstylist Cyndia Harvey wins for her drive to make the industry more inclusive. In 2017, she created This Hair of Mine, a thought-provoking film that presents decadent and intricate hairstyles from select African tribes in six minutes. This is only just some of the work that she's done to champion Black women and their hair, and its part of her vision to represent the entire spectrum of beauty and utilise her skills to fight for the visibility of underrepresented groups of society. Having brought this mindset to the covers of AnOther and Jacquemus campaigns (just to name a few) there's nothing stoping Cyndia from being heard.

And last but not least, Andrew Kenny takes home the Community & Craftsmanship prize. Owner of the London Embroidery Studio, he uses traditional skills to generate new and exciting techniques with cutting edge embroidery machines. His blend of customary and modern methods make for a sustainable way of keeping the craft alive and almost more importantly, in demand. Andrew also runs classes from his East London studio, often with discounts for disadvantaged members and/or those on a low income within the community. Reigniting a skill and making it accessible for more people – what's there not to like.
