When it comes to sustainability in the luxury world, Gabriela Hearst has been pioneering earth (and people!) friendly sourcing and production from her very first collection of her eponymous label back in 2015, and most recently instigating a mini revolution at her adopted one, Chloé.

Her first runway collection for the 1952-founded French house debuted in 2021 on the Left Bank streets in Paris and press and customers alike were slightly (ok, very) shocked to see vintage Chloe Edith bags (as created in the early 2000s) in the hands of models. But these 2nd hand pieces - sourced from Ebay and resale shops around the world) were the horn cry of intention from Hearst. Why can't a luxury brand buy back authentic stock to re-make and re-upholster souped up bags, in this case with elements of chunky-thread, embroidered edges and appliquéd deadstock fabrics. 50 of these re-imagined bags went on sale alongside original production pieces.

And now, Hearst's Chloé introduces the bold 'Nama' sneakers whereby 40% of the materials are recycled. These use recycled mesh that's carefully stitched by hand and Leather Working Group-certified suede stamped with the brand logo. They're embroidered with colorful threads and set on chunky, ribbed soles that are surprisingly lightweight given how substantial they look.

While we all ask "how many more sneakers can there be?" - well, these are not only a beautiful new iteration, but also put wear the heart of their materials on their sole. And for that, we're glad to see another sneaker and hope these become a new standard.
