Cast your mind back to Copenhagen Fashion Week in February, amid the mise-en-scene of clement skies, and go 30 minutes south of the city to the ARKEN Museum of Modern Art. Here, Scandi-brand Ganni presented its AW23 collection on the final day of shows.

Marked by a sleek logo rebrand, a new It-bag (made from eco-leather food waste leather – Ohoskin) and a kaleidoscope of colour and texture, the collection was a whimsical ode to the free-spirited butterfly. Audiences were welcomed by an animated butterfly sculpture, made by artist Esben Weile Kjær and the show was aptly soundtracked to Mariah’s 90s hit ‘Butterfly’. The show closed with an explosion of fluttering biodegradable paper confetti. The collection itself featured delicate wing-like ruffles and scallop edges en masse, alongside a myriad of painterly prints and signature cowboy boots (obvs).

Emerging from its cocoon, the first “drop” to kickstart Ganni’s butterfly era, comes in the form of a collaboration with stylist Veneda Carter, a long-time muse of the brand who herself took to the runway for Ganni’s spring/summer 2023.

Dubbed “a total GANNI Girl,” by creative director Ditte Reffstrup, Veneda grew up in Copenhagen but – much like the butterfly – has spent much of her life fluttering between places. Los Angeles is her current home, where she caused a butterfly effect (sorry, we couldn't help it) as head stylist of YEEZY and as Kim Kardashian’s day-to-day stylist before turning her focus to independent projects and jewellery, officially launching her own brand in August last year.

For 2023, Veneda has teamed up with Ditte, to design a three-piece collection featuring a necklace, bracelet and earrings all adopting Ganni’s new butterfly motif, rendered in her signature organic gilded style.

The resulting jewellery collection launches on April 28th and will be available in select GANNI stores, GANNI.com and VenedaCarter.com.
