Think back to your youth, when a trip into town to spend hours browsing the sky-high shelves in your nearest Claire’s Accessories was a day well spent. We’re talking deeley boppers, Blair Waldorf-inspired headbands and rainbow snap-clips neatly stacked up on top of one another.

But forget the childhood gimmicks, fun hair accessories have gained grown-up approval from the likes of Margot Robbie, Adwoa Aboah and Sienna Miller. To date, #scrunchie has amassed close to 800 million views on TikTok, while #hairclips, a close second, has had over 500 million. And since the pandemic and subsequent rise of the app, small brands have been leading the way in the adorable hair accessories space.

Shop at Good Squish...

Good Squish, a Hackney-based indie brand, has been hand-making its supersized scrunchies from deadstock fabrics since 2021. It's great blooms of gingham, ruffles and silk bop around pilled on top of the heads of the chicest ‘80s accessories advocates. While North-London-based Margaux Studios’ balletcore barrettes are also all completely handmade, offering a bespoke service for their baby pink and gingham, rhinestone embellished bows.

Shop at Katya...

Founded by fashion stylist Kate Iorga, Katya takes the traditional hair clip – an often hidden and overlooked accessory – and reinvents it as a standout piece. A self-proclaimed “sucker for nostalgia,” Kate references Studio 45 and the work of Guy Bourdin, bringing the essence of the ‘80s and ‘90s to the humble styling staple.

Shop at Margaux Studios...

We’ve also seen luxury iterations of the trend, with Gucci's diamante logo emblazoned slides, Jaquemus’ gilded floral hair pin and Prada’s triangle logo headbands. Not to mention, Simone Rocha’s pearly plays on nostalgic hair accessories of all types.

So whether you're looking to clip back fly-aways, claw back a slick pony or add height to your updo, cute hair accessories are having a moment, and here at Because HQ we’re keeping a firm grip on the trend and here's how to shop it...
