Etro’s new Creative Director, Marco de Vincenzo, has a long-standing love affair with revamped vintage. Before his appointment at Etro last year, in an experiment with no looming deadline, his Supèrno collection for his namesake brand was a celebration of upcyling, transforming vintage with metallic baubles, shimmering crystal strings and nets of sequins adorning curated pieces. Marco has continued this fascination in his new role at the Milan-based heritage brand known for its fabrics and prints.

The first product, before Marco had even shown his first womenswear collection, was the Love Trotter Tote. A shot of intention, the bag uses deadstock, archival fabric from Etro’s vast storage, with recycled plastic hardware handles to create a book tote that is decadent and playful in its prints and one-off nature.

Later on, for his first menswear presentation this past January in Milan, he showed a fashion show set made up of piles of rolls of the same archive fabrics, each sumptuous roll tagged with the date of when the majority of its quantity was designed and used. There is no doubt that Marco is injecting a more sustainable mindset into this Italian mega luxury brand, one bag and fabric roll at a time.
