Pub Party

Although this weekend means we’ll be seeing the back of three day weekends for the next few months, quite frankly the late May bank holiday is my favourite time of year. Not only does the end of May welcome the start of summer, and the impending holiday season it also happens to mark my Birthday – yes, we are entering Gemini season at last!

This Saturday, you’ll find me raising a glass in my local pub garden with my nearest and dearest wearing my favourite new summer dress by Tove. Its front twist cut-out detail and full skirt make the perfect day-to-night get-up for parading in the sunshine and shimmying into the evening.

In true Gemini spirit, I’ll be honouring my birth month with a set of By Pariah, emerald birthstone gold hoop earrings, which will add a subtle pop of colour to my monochrome look. For longevity on the sticky pub dance floor, I’ll be slipping into these Vagabond Vivian Pumps. They went viral on TikTok a few months ago and have since been selling out every time they restock. I’ve been dying for a pair of pointed-toe Mary Janes and these do just the job. I’ll be cramming my belonging into this Cecilie Bahnsen ruched mini bag and slinging it over my shoulder for all-day ease.

To ring in the big two five I’ll be sipping Veuve Clicquot’s new 2015 vintage of La Grande Dame, its case and bottle born from the colourful imagination of Italian designer, Paola Paronetto, the perfect accompaniment to a Birthday spent in the sunshine.

Self-care Weekend

For me this May bank holiday couldn't have come any sooner. I know we have been rather spoiled this month with ample opportunities to catch up on our beauty sleep and plan long weekends away but the time – as always – has gone too quickly! I need an extra day to get on top of life admin, so I am treating this bank holiday as a weekend for self-care. I’m talking low-key plans with friends and time for rest and recuperation.

As the weather hots up (at last!) this gingham dress by Aligne takes pride of place on my wishlist. Not one to usually don a dress, I’m looking to expand my wardrobe and something about the asymmetrical hemline and puff sleeves makes this exactly the piece to host a dinner party in. Paired with verdant Kiko Kostadinov hybrid ballerina flats, a funky tech-inspired interpretation of the shoe trend, this look is a low effort by high impact – much like the menu I have devised. Skye McAlpine’s ‘A Table for Friends: The Art of Cooking for Two or Twenty’ is the perfect source of inspiration for dinner party cooking, adding in all the tips and tricks for hosting, from table setting to curating a menu, making it stress-free and as enjoyable as possible.

I’ve been on the lookout for the perfect summer sunnies for a while now. These Oval tortoise shell specks by Victoria Beckham are the ideal pair for my weekend dog walks along Primrose Hill.

To round off the weekend I will be indulging in a well-deserved pamper session. Giving my nails a much-needed rest from back-to-back shellac and painting them in this vibrant shade by Essie. The colour is giving Haille’s nails from the Lindsy Lohan film The Parent Trap and I’m so here for it!

Day Festival

For me, the late May Bank Holiday soon to arrive is the last hurrah of Spring before Summer makes its overdue entrance, a final flourish of jacket weather before the smell of barbecue and the sight of lobster tans no longer becomes a novelty. It also marks the start of the British festival season, with the spectre of Glastonbury looming in the distance. This Saturday, I’ll be attending Wide Awake in Brixton, so I’ll be requiring a festival outfit that matches the festival’s experimental, carefree atmosphere.

Frankly, a lot of festival fashion leaves me cold: if I had my way, boho-chic would remain locked in the noughties dungeon alongside crimped hair and ties over t-shirts. With that said, a childhood crush on Tony Hawk means I still have something of a yen for ¾ length shorts, and this pair from Kiko Kostadinov will make my teenage dream a reality. As life is all about balance, I’ll contrast the matte fabric of the shorts with this glossy cross-body bag from Acne Studios, perfect for ensuring my wallet doesn’t go astray while dancing.

Whether that ever-elusive British sunshine will materialise, I cannot say, but in a summery spirit of optimism, I’ll be sporting these chunky oval sunglasses from Celine. To add some Mediterranean luxury, I’ll be wearing this linen suit jacket from YMC, whose cool shade of blue will keep me feeling refreshed even as the day warms up. A smart suit requires smart shoes, and these slip on loafers from Camper are the perfect mix of formal and fabulous.
