Loewe’s beloved home scents get a painterly interpretation courtesy of Spanish artist Ignasi Monreal
A suggestive plume of smoke emanating from a just-extinguished candle wick; fire emerging behind a ripe beefsteak tomato; a solitary flame in an inchoate mass of melted wax: these are just a few of the allusive images artist Ignasi Monreal has created in a recent collaboration with Loewe.
Emphasising the botanical heritage of Loewe’s Home Fragrances – developed by the brand’s in-house perfumer Nuria Cruelles – the images accompany five of Loewe’s best-selling candles, along with fascinating real-time videos of the artwork being created.
Monreal’s exquisitely tasteful work finds a perfect analogue in Loewe, whose own brand codes similarly balance heritage aesthetics with a forward-thinking sensibility. Emphasising the botanical origins of the Home Fragrance range, the works nod to surrealism and Loewe’s brand codes. For the Beetroot candle, Monreal imagines smoke forming in the shape of Loewe’s signature anagram, whereas Ivy imagines the terracotta candle holder overgrown with foliage.
It’s an evocative dialogue between scent and sight, where each composition invites the viewer to linger on the strange contrasts between natural and crafted creativity. One is organic, the other the result of human intervention, yet together they bring out the beauty in each other. Through this collaboration, Loewe not only reaffirms its dedication to artisanal excellence and natural inspiration but also offers a fresh, imaginative lens through which to experience its beloved home scents.
