What Nell's Looking Forward To for 2025

We get a million press releases a day here at Because HQ, and we delight in sifting through them to edit down what we think matters, and explain why.

because we're obsessed | Jan 14, 2025

2025 is going to be rough. There’s no two ways about it - from politics to social media to fashion, the tension is present. But it’s at these moments when there is the most opportunity for change.  So we’ve asked some of our team to share the things they are most excited about for 2025 - from fashion, to music, to exhibitions and more in case they inspire and provide another lens in which to discover.

Not so horrible history
The final novel in Danish author Harald Voetman’s trilogy, Visions and Temptations. The first, Awake, was narrated by a dying Pliny the Elder; the second, Sublunar, by an assistant to the sixteenth-century Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe, and the final book introduces the eleventh-century German mystic Othlo of St. Emmeram.

Strap in
In 2025 my resolution is to wear clothes with more eyelets, toggles, hook-and-eye fasteners, buckles, straps and buttons. Having become a fan of designer Johanna Parv in 2024, I am excited to see what she’s got in line for the year ahead. I want one of her Italian handbags that you strap around your waist

Prepare for battle
There’s a new Paul Thomas Anderson film coming later in the year with the working title The Battle of Baktan Cross. We don’t know much about it yet but it’s starring Leo DiCaprio and one of the sisters from Haim.

Fine art
I hope to make it up to Scotland to see this major exhibition of artist Wael Shawky’s work across all the Talbot Rice Gallery’s rooms. His installation at the Egyptian Pavilion for the 2024 Venice Biennale, Drama 1882, was astounding, and this show sounds like a properly extensive exhibition of his genius.
