Blooming beautiful

Cast your eyes back to September, where suits, dresses and accessories inspired by The Well of Loneliness by Radclyffe Hall swept along the steps of the British Museum. The collection was centred around the novel’s dense symbolic vernacular,  presented with Erdem’s iconic romantic flair. Amongst flowing silk and floral embroideries, a hint of leather and a glimmer of gold. It was in Erdem's ss25 collection that we saw the brand's debut accessory. 

Erdem breathes life into leather goods with the launch of their first bag, the Bloom Bag. The collection, an ode to time-honoured craft and beauty, is a handmade capsule of modern craftsmanship.

On each bag, a flower bud handle in hammered brass, sits perfectly on the bag’s organic body with a light gold finish. Cast using a technique more traditionally used in fine jewellery, these bags are blooming (pardon the pun) with luxurious intricacy, and come in striking variations of black and mustard velvet, rose pink, cream or khaki calf leather lined in suede. The collection also comprises two sizes: the Bloom mini and The Bloom medium, making for the perfect day and evening addition. Whether as a crossbody dressed down with a sweater or as a clutch paired with a floaty gown.

In keeping with the codes of the house, Erdem explores the language of femininity with grace “I began by contemplating the character, gestures, and poise of the many women and muses who have inspired the narratives of all my collections, alongside a life-long fascination with the language of flowers,” Moralioglu says. Like Stephen, protagonist of The Well of Loneliness, these women can be groundbreaking, bold and beautiful – no mere wallflowers. Now, they have a striking, elegant bag to match.
