Goodbye sweaty synthetics, hello mindfully crafted cashmere
By Olivia Barrett
Why have cardigans stayed the same shape for…well, forever? From our early school days where we could choose from a few polyester primary colours, to our uni days, hunched over a laptop with a scruffy but comforting cardi shrugged over our shoulders, cardigans have always been there in that same button down shape. Is it a sense of tradition, or how the knit machines work that have made any innovation to the staple cardi never really happen? Enter Jakob, a sustainable, British knitwear brand have challenged the status quo and are messing with a well-loved classic.
Born out of a frustration with the current knitwear market, founder Alexandra Staufer wanted high-quality pieces that wouldn't fall apart at the seams and weren't made up of sweaty synthetics. Jakob’s inaugural capsule of cardigans and jumpers are made of 100% recycled cashmere, crafted with Italian yarn and designed with heirloom longevity in mind. Produced in small runs, perhaps what we truly love is just how focused they are. They carry a sum total of two styles - yes you read us right, two. Why more (just yet) when you want to establish yourself with a scalloped edge that upends the traditional grandfather cardigan shape, and another with a large, wiggly collar that makes it more of a fashion piece than a pure staple.
3 colour ways in each style - 6 in total. Fun colours to mix and match with your wardrobe. Forget buying a jokey Christmas sweater. Instead, invest in Jakob knitwear piece and inject a bit of fun into your closet.
