There is arguably no better feeling than soaking in a bath. When the waters’ temperature is a little too hot, your body enters a state of complete relaxation just until your skin begins to wrinkle and you know you’ve overdone it. You hop out the bath, bubbles clinging to your ankles and wrap yourself into your terry towelling robe, fasten the tie and you're set for the evening. If this sounds like your idea of a great Saturday night, then we have just the collaboration for you: Tekla x Auralee. An amalgamation of Japanese and Scandinavian aesthetics while celebrating the soul soothing bathing rituals of onsen.
By now we all know who Tekla are. The Scandinavian lifestyle brand have elevated our downtime over the years with their signature striped design and subdued colour palettes, welcoming the idea of mix and matched bed linens and pyjama sets. They have filled our pinterest boards and made us question our trusty, if traditional, John Lewis sets. They’ve surprised us, collaborating with like minded brands from Birkenstock to Artek and some unexpected guests including Jamie XX and Stüssy. Now comes their latest collaborative instalment with Auralee, the Japan-based brand who have perfected relaxed simplicity with gorgeous colour palettes. Fabrication is at the heart of the brand, each collection developing from an extensive search of the best high-quality raw materials and yarns sourced in Japan. Both brands' mutual appreciation for craft, quality and the art of slow living meant it was only a matter of time this collaboration graced our shopping baskets.
Now, let’s talk details. The collection comprises towels, outerwear, knitted hats and socks, sleepwear, all inspired by the experience of returning from an onsen on a cold evening. Tekla’s iconic organic cotton features heavily in the sleepwear and towels, while Auralee’s fabric expertise shines in their superfine merino wool coats and down jackets, made in Japan. The onsen towel steals the spotlight, a special edition with a longer canvas label that secures it around your head or neck, inspired by the authentic towels used at traditional Japanese bathhouses and available in earthy tones reminiscent of onsen regions. A personal favourite is the outerwear, consisting of down jackets reminiscent of a hotel duvet, which, let’s face it, screams luxurious.
Although we’re currently in an office in central London and nowhere near an onsen bath in Japan, this is perhaps as close as we will get. So if you're looking to add that extra bit of luxury to your post-soak rituals, the collection drops on October 30th, happy bathing!
