Apple surprises with an Issey Miyake collab

In an innovative collaboration between two industry leaders in technology and design, the limited-edition ISSEY MIYAKE x Apple iPhone Pocket will launch this Friday, 14th November.

Merging creativity, functionality, and craftsmanship, the new iPhone Pocket turns a simple piece of cloth into a carrier of Californian technology. Issey Miyake’s signature 3D knit - a signature that Mr. Miyake created in 1998 - continues to push the boundaries of what textile and knitting machines can do.
Today, Apple launches a collaboration “Pocket” that allows the more fashion-savvy to never lose their phone again.
Reinterpreting the everyday utility of its iconic pleated clothing, the Miyake Design Studio has created this extra pocket, as stylish as it is functional, which can be worn handheld, tied onto bags, or cross-body.
Its singular 3D knit construction is designed to fit any iPhone, as well as AirPods and other pocketable items. When stretched, the Pocket subtly reveals its contents, allowing users to glance at their phone display without having to take it out — the perfect accessory for theft-conscious Londoners (that’s all of us, then!)
The Pocket comes in a pleated rainbow of eight eye-catching colours, using the trademark Miyake “simplicity” to allow customers to explore the vast “possibilities and personal interpretation” of the Pocket. It’s imagined as a tool to enhance the “bond between iPhone and its user”, a fluid and versatile medium between person and product. Marketing speak, for sure, but given the screen time warnings we get daily about the number of hours we spend on our iPhones…well, that bond is tight.
Apple rarely collaborates with fashion houses, having only previously worked notably with Hermès on a line of Apple Watch models. However, this Apple and ISSEY MIYAKE partnership makes sense, both emphasising the production of highly perfected, original, stylised, and functional items.
As a limited-edition release, the iPhone Pocket will be available in selected Apple stores and on apple.com from Friday 14th November, perfectly timed for the stocking-stuffer gifting moment.
